I've been building and hosting webapps, mainly in Django and Flask, for some time now. Mainly, I've been hosting them on Heroku, because of the free tier and the ease of git-enabled application updating.

I have seen that a lot of Django users prefer Webfaction. I looked through their offerings, and they seem to me like a standard web hosting service.

Questions:

  1. Why might be webfaction considered a good hosting service for Django apps?
  2. If Heroku is generally called a "Platform-as-a-Service," what does that make Webfaction? Does it have any important similiarities/distinctions from Heroku that I might somehow be missing?
